The Unofficial Fashion Report: Best Oscars Dresses

Okay, well, everyone has their own opinions on the Oscars between the movies featured, the actors and actresses honored to probably the most favorite to criticize.. what people wore.  While people like editors of fashion magazines, the official Fashion Police show on E Television and “Todays Professionals” on The Today Show gave their opinions, I am about to give mine.  I enjoy the show each year not only because I am a movie enthusiast but also because I am so blatantly obsessed with fashion.

There were some obvious trends in the various gowns that showed up on the red carpet.  Many gowns were in white, ivory or nude colors such as Gwyneth Paltrow in her self-dubbed “Jackie O moment” as well as the standout color of red or coral as well.  There also was a similar theme of a fuller than normal skirt or peplum detailing as in the dress Tina Fey wore that was exclusively designed by Carolina Herrera for the big night.  There was another recurring theme of embellishments from heavily beaded dresses to embroidered golden gowns from McQueen worn by Jessica Chastain, and I don’t care if you were or weren’t watching the awards show, we all saw the leg, thee leg, c’mon you know what  I’m talking about.  But enough about the details of the dresses, lets move on to some actual pictures and my top 3 best of the 2012 Oscars..

Top Three Best Dressed:

1. Natalie Portman: The new mother not only wore an amazing red and black polka dotted Dior Haute Couture dress but also debuted a new wedding ring and secret married status to hubby Benjamin Millepied.  She was all that was talked about last year after starring in the Black Swan and winning an Academy Award for her role as an overly uptight, neurotic ballet dancer and this year proved no different.  See for yourself below.

2. Jessica Chastain: Wearing an amazing black strapless flowing gown with gold embroidery by Alexander Mcqueen, she oozes confidence on the red carpet.  Looking like a seasoned movie star, she was nominated for best supporting actress for the movie The Help as well as having her movie The Tree of Life up for best movie.  She has been a hit all awards season long with her daring fashion choices, sometimes good, sometimes bad, this however was a night for the books for Chastain.

3. Tie: Meryl Streep and Stacy Keibler: Meryl really needs no introduction with 17 nominations overall and three Oscars wins, including this past Academy Awards ceremony she is a legend in the acting and movie scene.  Perhaps one of the most well-known actresses of the modern generation, Streep is in a league of her own.  This gold Lanvin dress that makes her look not only like the golden Oscars statue that she won but also accentuates her in all the right places, makes her shine like the famous star she is.  Now I’m not going to say much about Stacy Keibler, I mean just the fact that she is the latest woman in the line of girlfriends on George Clooney’s long list is enough already.  She does however shine on her own merit in this golden Marchesa gown which might even make me forget that she is  former WWE wrestler.. who am I kidding I could never forget that..

  1. I completely agree about Meryl’s dress. She looked like a feminine Oscar statue herself. Being a cinephile and fashion enthusiast could not wait for the Red Carpet event last Sunday, and watched all of the beatiful gowns and suits and tuxedos step outside of their vehicles onto that soft red carpet. I absolutely loved Jennifer Lopez’s dress: she looked stunning, simply radiant. I thought Natalie Portman looked slightly “little-house on the prairie-esque” though in her red polka dot dress. I wasn’t a huge fan…didn’t really compliment her in the right way. Jessica Chastain’s dress looks so extravagant and beautiful, and with her skin tone and her hair..just stunning. Alexander McQueen is (was) my favorite designer and so any dress really that he creates is just a work of art in itself. I wonder if you also look at the men’s fashion as well? Obviously George Clooney looked beautiful (…as usual). Jean Dujardin looked handsome, being on the red carpet for the first time. Keep up your blog, love reading about fashion! 🙂
